One of college sports’ most recognizable radio partnerships is making a comeback.
After more than a decade with another flagship broadcaster, West Virginia University Athletics is returning to WVRC Media, restoring a relationship that will once again put the Mountaineers on a network of stations stretching across much of the Mountain State beginning with the 2026 football season.
As part of the new agreement, 101.9 WVAQ in Morgantown will become the flagship station for WVU football and men’s basketball, while WAJR-AM/104.5 FM will carry an expanded lineup that includes football, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, and the university’s weekly coaches’ shows.
The coverage doesn’t stop there.
WVRC Media is rolling out one of the most comprehensive Mountaineer radio networks in recent years. Fans in Clarksburg, Elkins, Martinsburg, Berkeley Springs, Romney, Keyser, Cumberland, and surrounding communities will hear a variety of football, basketball, baseball, and coaches’ programming across the company’s stations, significantly expanding the reach of WVU Athletics throughout the region.
The move also marks the end of a 13-year run in which 100.9 WZST served as the flagship home for Mountaineer broadcasts.
For WVRC Media, the agreement represents the return of one of the state’s most valuable sports properties. For West Virginia University, it reconnects the Mountaineers with a broadcaster that has long played a major role in delivering games and programming to fans across the state.
College athletics continue to be among the most powerful drivers of local radio listening, and this new partnership reinforces the importance of hometown sports coverage as broadcasters compete for loyal audiences and community engagement.
When the Mountaineers kick off the 2026 season, they’ll do so with a familiar radio partner once again carrying the excitement to fans from one end of West Virginia to the other.
