At a time when radio seems to generate a new story every five minutes about shrinking staffs, disappearing local shows and personalities suddenly finding themselves on the outside, Hubbard Radio is making a decidedly different statement in West Palm Beach: when you’ve got talent that works, keep it — and then find another place to use it. Danny Meyers and Meghan Lane have signed contract extensions to remain afternoon hosts at Hot AC 97.9 WRMF, while their footprint has grown substantially with the duo now also handling mornings on sister Classic Hits Sunny 107.9 WEAT.
And this isn’t simply two personalities pulling double duty.
It’s a fascinating example of how shared talent can work when the personalities — rather than automation — remain the centerpiece of the product.
From WRMF Afternoons to a Much Bigger Assignment
Lane arrived at WRMF in March 2023, initially working alongside Jeff Miles before Meyers joined the afternoon show several months later.
The Meyers-Lane combination stuck.
Now Hubbard isn’t merely extending their contracts.
It’s expanding the relationship.
The pair continues entertaining WRMF’s Hot AC audience in afternoons while simultaneously taking responsibility for morning drive on Sunny 107.9.
That’s two stations.
Two formats.
Two very different listening environments.
And two enormously important dayparts.
Anybody who thinks that’s simply a matter of changing the station name on a liner has never programmed radio.
Meghan Lane Has Been Building Toward This
Lane came to West Palm Beach with substantial morning-show experience already on the résumé.
Before WRMF, she spent years at Cox Media Group’s 95.1 WAPE Jacksonville, initially working behind the scenes as a producer before eventually becoming a morning co-host — a role she held for roughly eight years.
That progression matters.
Producer to personality is one of radio’s great developmental paths because producers learn the machinery of a show before becoming one of its primary voices.
They understand preparation.
They understand timing.
They understand what happens when the original idea for a segment completely collapses at 7:22 in the morning and somebody has approximately four seconds to rescue it.
That’s morning radio education you cannot get from a textbook.
And Danny Meyers Has Basically Lived Every Version of This Job
Then there’s Meyers.
His radio passport has some serious mileage on it.
He’s worked mornings at G105 WDCG Raleigh, programmed and hosted mornings at Movin 107.7 WMOV-FM Norfolk, and spent an extraordinary 14 years co-hosting mornings at K92 WXLK-FM Roanoke.
Keep going.
Philadelphia.
New York.
Boston.
Meyers has worked mornings at Mix 95.7 WMWX Philadelphia, nights at the legendary 95.5 WPLJ New York, and served as APD, Music Director and night personality at Star 93.7 WQSX Boston.
That’s not simply an aircheck collection.
That’s decades of learning how audiences behave in radically different markets and formats.
And now Hubbard gets to deploy that experience twice every weekday.
Here’s Why the Sunny Move Is Particularly Interesting
Hot AC afternoons and Classic Hits mornings require different energy.
WRMF’s afternoon audience is finishing the workday, navigating South Florida traffic and transitioning into the evening.
Sunny’s morning audience is waking up.
That means Meyers and Lane can’t simply manufacture one generic show and change the call letters.
At least, they shouldn’t.
The opportunity is to let the chemistry remain consistent while changing the context around it.
Same humans.
Different room.
That’s the challenge — and potentially the brilliance — of the arrangement.
Listeners increasingly connect with people, not merely frequencies.
If Hubbard has identified two personalities capable of building relationships across multiple brands, maximizing that relationship makes plenty of business sense.
But There Is a Bigger Radio Conversation Here
Shared talent sometimes gets a deservedly bad reputation.
We’ve all heard the version that doesn’t work.
A personality somewhere hundreds of miles away records four breaks, mispronounces the suburb, mentions weather that happened yesterday and disappears until tomorrow.
That’s not what we’re talking about here.
There is a substantial difference between using technology to eliminate personality and using talented personalities more effectively across a local cluster.
If Meyers and Lane can make Sunny mornings feel specifically built for Sunny while keeping WRMF afternoons distinctive, Hubbard potentially gets the best of both worlds.
The company gets greater value from established talent.
The personalities get increased visibility and job security.
And listeners still get actual human beings behind the microphones.
Everybody can win.
But execution matters enormously.
An On The Dial Perspective
We spend plenty of time around here asking radio companies to invest in personalities.
So when somebody does, we’re going to notice.
Hubbard didn’t look at a successful afternoon combination and ask:
“How can we make this cheaper?”
At least from the outside, this move appears to ask a much more productive question:
“Where else can these people win?”
THAT is a question radio should ask more often.
Develop personalities.
Build chemistry.
Reward success.
Extend contracts.
Then find ways to make great talent more valuable without stripping away the very personality that made them valuable in the first place.
Danny Meyers brings an enormous amount of morning-radio experience to this assignment.
Meghan Lane has already spent a significant portion of her career waking up listeners.
Together, they’ve developed a relationship with the WRMF audience that Hubbard clearly believes has additional room to grow.
So why not give them another microphone?
Actually…
give them another entire radio station.
Congratulations to Danny Meyers, Meghan Lane and Hubbard Radio.
WRMF afternoons are staying intact.
Sunny mornings have two familiar West Palm Beach voices behind the microphones.
And in an industry where far too many personnel announcements lately have contained the word “exits,” it’s genuinely refreshing to write one containing two considerably better words:
“Contract extensions.”
Now go make some radio.
