JD Garfield is back on the air.
The veteran programmer and personality has been hired for afternoons at Alt 105.1 (WGHL-FM) in Louisville, Kentucky.
I got the news this morning from site editor Steve Mills and my first thought was “Holy cow!” Garfield hasn’t been on the air in a few years, but I’ve followed his work for a long time and always loved his passion across multiple formats.
I first discovered him on 92.9 The Beat in Springfield, Missouri — that rhythmic CHR station had such a cool mix of hip-hop hits, throwbacks, and mainstream titles. Later he programmed Wild 101 in Idaho and helped launch some really creative HD subchannels on their country station. You could always see on social media how much he genuinely loved building those brands.
That’s exactly why I was thrilled to catch up with him right before he hits the air again. Here’s what he told me:
“I’m happy to be back in the industry I grew up in. It’s been a long 5 years away but I’m grateful for Ben Davis, Steve Bearance and Connoisseur Media for the opportunity to host afternoons on Alt 105.1 in Louisville. It’s Derby Season here so there’s lots to talk about, we’ve got a cash contest our listeners are excited about, tons of shows coming up in the next few months (Bourbon and Beyond/Louder Than Life), and I’m looking forward to working with Meatball in hopes of doing the best I can to help the station continue to grow and succeed.”
Welcome back, JD. Louisville afternoons just got a lot more interesting.
