A familiar voice in Washington radio is about to get a much bigger stage.
O’Connor & Company, the morning show anchored by Larry O’Connor on WMAL-FM, is set to launch into national syndication through Salem Radio Network beginning Monday, May 4.
The move also brings the program to the Salem News Channel, filling a key programming gap created by the departure of Chris Stigall earlier this spring.
O’Connor’s rise to national distribution follows more than a decade of steady growth within Cumulus’ Washington cluster. Since joining WMAL in 2012, he has moved through multiple dayparts — from co-hosting mornings to anchoring afternoons, and ultimately returning to the morning slot in 2021, where the show has continued to build influence among politically engaged listeners.
Salem executives see that influence as ready-made for national expansion.
“Larry is the go-to media voice for the people shaping policy in our nation’s capital,” said Phil Boyce, Senior Vice President of Content at Salem. “He’s built a show insiders rely on and an audience that cares deeply about the direction of the country. We’re proud to expand that success across our national lineup, leading the conversation every morning across America.”
For O’Connor, the move reflects a broader shift in how content is delivered.
“We’re excited to bring O’Connor & Company to a broader national audience while maintaining the strong foundation and audience connection the show has built in Washington,” he said. “At the same time, we’re building the future of media across radio, streaming, and digital platforms with Townhall and the Salem News Channel.”
He added that executive producer Heather Hunter will remain with the program as it expands.
Cumulus leadership also framed the move as a natural extension of the show’s growth.
“The growth of O’Connor & Company reflects the strength of the show and its connection with listeners,” said Jeff Boden, Vice President and Market Manager for Cumulus Washington. “We’re pleased to see the program reach new audiences while continuing to serve our listeners in Washington each morning.”
Beyond the talent move, the bigger signal here is strategic.
