A familiar and highly successful duo is getting a new wake-up call in Charlotte.
Following the retirements of longtime morning personalities Rob Tanner, Catherine Lane, and Chris Allen, Beasley Media Group’s Country 103.7 WSOC-FM has tapped Charlie and Debbie Nance to take over mornings beginning Monday, June 22. The move places one of the market’s most established country radio teams into one of the most important dayparts in broadcasting.
For WSOC listeners, Charlie and Debbie hardly need an introduction.
The husband-and-wife team has been a fixture on the station’s afternoon drive since 2006, becoming one of Charlotte’s most recognizable radio pairings. Over nearly two decades, they’ve built a loyal audience through a blend of humor, authenticity, family stories, and a genuine connection with listeners that has helped make them one of the market’s most successful personalities.
Their journey together in radio stretches back even further.
Both Texas natives, Charlie and Debbie first crossed paths in 1991 when Charlie hired Debbie while serving as Program Director of KJNE in Waco, Texas. What started as a professional relationship eventually evolved into one of country radio’s most enduring partnerships. Over the years, the duo worked together in Greenville, South Carolina, Augusta, Georgia, and Birmingham, Alabama, before making Charlotte their home.
The move to mornings is more than a schedule change.
It’s a return to a daypart where the Nances have previously found success throughout their career. Their chemistry, developed over decades both on and off the air, has consistently resonated with listeners across multiple markets. That connection remains one of their greatest strengths and a major reason WSOC has entrusted them with leading the station into its next chapter.
Beyond Charlotte, Charlie and Debbie have also expanded their reach nationally. The pair currently co-host “Kyle Petty’s Back Then Again Country Countdown” alongside NASCAR legend Kyle Petty, bringing their storytelling and country music expertise to audiences across the country.
The timing of the move comes as WSOC looks to maintain its position as one of the premier country stations in the Southeast. The station has long been one of Charlotte’s strongest radio brands, and Charlie and Debbie arrive in mornings with a proven track record of audience success. Industry data earlier this year showed the duo among the top-performing country afternoon personalities in the nation, underscoring the strength of the brand they have built in Charlotte.
As one era closes with the retirement of Tanner, Lane, and Allen, another begins with a team that already knows the station, the audience, and the community.
For Country 103.7 listeners, mornings are about to sound very familiar.
Charlie and Debbie have spent decades proving that great radio is built on authenticity, chemistry, and consistency. As they make the move to mornings, WSOC isn’t just filling a vacancy—it’s placing one of country radio’s most accomplished teams into the driver’s seat.
