One of the biggest format changes Houston has seen in years is about to reshape the city’s sports radio landscape.

Beginning Thursday, August 13, Audacy will expand the reach of Sports Radio 610 by launching a full-time FM simulcast on 95.7, ending the run of 95.7 The Spot and introducing a new identity: 95.7 The Fan.

The timing is no coincidence.

The launch comes just as the Houston Texans kick off their preseason schedule, giving the team’s flagship station a stronger FM presence heading into football season. Sports Radio 610 has long been synonymous with Texans coverage, and the move positions the station to capitalize on one of the busiest times of the sports calendar.

As part of the transition, both signals will adopt the legendary KIKK call letters. The move revives one of Houston radio’s most recognizable brands, a name that spent decades associated with the city’s iconic Country station before disappearing from the dial more than two decades ago.

For Audacy, the strategy is clear: put one of its strongest local brands on a bigger signal while continuing its nationwide investment in FM sports radio. Once the switch is complete, the company will operate 23 FM sports stations, including outlets in every one of America’s eleven largest radio markets.

Audacy Chief Business Officer Chris Oliviero called Houston one of the country’s premier sports cities, saying the combination of local personalities, exclusive Texans coverage, and expanded FM distribution gives fans another way to stay connected to the teams they care about.

The change also marks the end of an era for 95.7 The Spot, which has served Houston listeners with its Variety Hits format for years.

Among those affected is longtime Houston personality Greg “Grego” Onofrio, whose run with the station comes to an end. Grego has represented the brand since 2019 while remaining a familiar face and voice in Houston broadcasting. His career has included multiple stops at KLOL, appearances on KIAH-TV, and on-air roles in Miami, Dallas, and Columbus.

The move intensifies Houston’s already competitive sports radio battle, where Sports Radio 610 faces SportsTalk 790 and ESPN 97.5 for listeners in one of the nation’s most passionate sports markets.

When 95.7 flips the switch next month, it won’t simply be another format change. It will mark a major investment in FM sports radio, revive one of Houston’s most historic call letters, and usher in a new chapter in one of America’s most competitive radio cities.
