Hubbard Expands Lern Elwell’s Reach As She Joins Chicago’s Legendary 97.1 The Drive

Hubbard Radio is once again looking within its own talent roster, bringing one of its most familiar rock personalities to one of the format’s most respected stations.

Lauren “Lern” Elwell has joined the on-air lineup at 97.1 The Drive (WDRV) in Chicago, where she will host evenings. She replaces the syndicated “Alice’s Attic” program, giving the station another live personality with deep roots in rock radio.

The move adds another major market to Elwell’s growing resume while allowing her to continue her current roles as a member of The Rizzuto Show on 105.7 The Point (KPNT) and midday host on legendary 94.7 KSHE in St. Louis.

Lern’s career has been built almost entirely within the Hubbard family. She joined the company in 2008 as a promotions coordinator and weekend personality at KSHE before steadily climbing through nearly every major daypart, including mornings, afternoons, and middays. Her addition to The Rizzuto Show in 2023 further cemented her status as one of Hubbard’s most versatile rock personalities.

Her move to Chicago also represents another example of Hubbard developing talent from within and leveraging successful personalities across multiple markets.

For listeners, The Drive gains a host who has spent years immersed in the rock lifestyle and understands the audience that has made stations like KSHE and WDRV iconic brands in American broadcasting.

For Lern, it’s another career milestone.

Few stations carry the heritage and reputation of 97.1 The Drive, and joining its lineup places her behind the microphone of one of Classic Rock radio’s signature brands.

As Hubbard continues investing in live personalities, this move demonstrates that authentic talent and strong storytelling remain at the heart of great radio.
