Another ownership move is poised to reshape Kentucky radio.

LM Communications, led by veteran broadcaster Lynn Martin, has reached an agreement to acquire 96.1 The Hound (WZNN) and 105.5 Hank-FM (WLXO) from Clarity Communications in a deal valued at $550,000.

If approved, the purchase would further strengthen LM’s presence in Central Kentucky, adding the two stations to a Lexington-area portfolio that already includes Classic Rock 92.1, Kiss 96.9, Hits 106.3, 107.9 The Beat, and ESPN 1300/92.5.

Because the transaction would place LM above the FCC’s local ownership limits, the company has requested a regulatory waiver. In its filing, LM argues that while the acquisition would increase its share of the local radio advertising market, it would still remain well behind the area’s dominant broadcaster. Company filings indicate LM’s estimated revenue share would grow to approximately 26%, compared to iHeartMedia’s roughly 56%, while Cumulus Media would remain the market’s third-largest operator.

The proposed acquisition also formalizes a relationship that has existed behind the scenes for years. Programming and format strategies have frequently crossed between the two ownership groups, including previous format migrations involving Hank-FM and content associated with 96.1 The Hound, making the transition a natural extension of an already close operating relationship.

For LM Communications, the move represents another strategic investment in locally focused broadcasting while expanding its influence across one of Kentucky’s most competitive regional markets.

If regulators approve the transaction, listeners may see additional programming and operational integration as the stations officially become part of the LM family.
