For most of his life, Rev. Dr. Steven Mills has been the person others turn to when life falls apart.
As the Senior Pastor of First Baptist Church of Garden City, he has comforted grieving families, celebrated weddings and baptisms, prayed with people facing impossible circumstances, and preached messages of hope to countless lives.
Outside the church, Steve has spent decades behind a microphone as a radio personality, programmer, and broadcast executive. His career has taken him to stations throughout Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska, Arizona, Oklahoma, Georgia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New York, and many other parts of the country, connecting with listeners one conversation at a time.
Today, he also serves as President and Publisher of On The Dial, a national digital publication covering the U.S. broadcast radio industry. Every day, On The Dial reports on breaking radio news, talent moves, programming changes, station launches, industry trends, and the people who continue to shape broadcasting across America. Through its reporting, On The Dial has become a place where broadcasters come together to celebrate successes, share challenges, and preserve the stories behind one of America’s most enduring industries.
Whether standing behind a pulpit, sitting behind a radio microphone, or leading one of broadcasting’s newest media brands, Steve has devoted his career to serving people.
Now…
He needs people to help save his life.
After surviving Hodgkin lymphoma and colorectal cancer, Steve is now living with end-stage renal disease. The chemotherapy that helped save him from cancer permanently destroyed his kidneys, leaving him dependent on peritoneal dialysis every single day.
Several hours of every day are now spent connected to dialysis equipment just to stay alive.
His doctors have made it clear that his best chance for survival is a living kidney donor.
Unfortunately, Steve’s medical history makes finding a donor extraordinarily difficult. A previous bone marrow transplant created a highly sensitized immune system, meaning even someone with the correct blood type may not be a compatible match. Extensive testing is required, and the pool of potential donors is much smaller than it would be for most kidney transplant patients.
Time is not on his side.
Yet through it all, Steve continues preaching, writing, encouraging others, and publishing On The Dial whenever his health allows.
Why?
Because there is one person who motivates him more than anyone else.
His 12-year-old daughter, Arizona.
He wants to be there when she graduates from high school.
He wants to watch her chase her dreams.
He wants to walk her down the aisle someday.
He wants to be the father every little girl deserves to have for as long as God allows.
Like so many Americans facing chronic illness, the financial burden has become overwhelming. Even with Medicare, the ongoing costs of dialysis supplies, medical care, travel, and treatment continue to mount while the need for a transplant grows more urgent.
If you’ve ever listened to Steve on the radio…
Read one of his stories…
Worked with him…
Attended one of his churches…
Followed On The Dial…
Or simply believe in helping someone who has spent a lifetime helping others…
Please consider taking the next step.
