Urban One’s Dallas Transformation Begins With Major Morning Show Move

The first phase of Urban One’s Dallas-Fort Worth expansion is officially underway, and listeners are already hearing the impact.

Beginning Monday, The Rickey Smiley Morning Show returns to 97.9 The Beat (KBFB), bringing one of syndicated radio’s most recognizable programs back to the station where it first became a Dallas morning staple before growing into a national franchise.

The move is part of a broader realignment tied to Urban One’s pending acquisition of K104 (KKDA-FM) and 105.7 Smooth R&B (KRNB), along with the planned sale of Majic 94.5 (KZMJ) to Fuzion Dallas LLC.

Monday also marks the final day of broadcasting for Majic 94.5 under its current identity. The station is expected to transition to a Spanish Christian format following the completion of the ownership change, closing the book on a brand that has served North Texas listeners for years.

In a farewell message to listeners, Program Director Queen Indy Bee thanked the DFW community for its longtime support while encouraging fans to stay connected for future developments involving the Majic brand.

The programming changes signal the beginning of what could be a dramatic reshaping of one of America’s largest radio markets. With new stations joining the Urban One family and existing brands shifting positions, Dallas-Fort Worth listeners are likely to see additional changes as the company’s expansion plans continue to unfold.

For now, one thing is certain.

A legendary morning show has returned to familiar territory, one iconic station is preparing to sign off, and the Dallas radio landscape is entering a brand-new chapter.
