Celina Martinez Is Leaving Dallas for a Bigger Stage and Tino Cochino Just Added Another Personality to the Party

Sometimes the most exciting move in radio isn’t somebody getting another shift at another station. It’s somebody getting the opportunity to take everything they’ve learned in local broadcasting and introduce themselves to listeners across the country. That’s exactly what’s happening with Celina Martinez, who is making the jump from iHeartMedia’s 106.1 Kiss-FM KHKS in Dallas to the nationally syndicated Tino Cochino Show. And while it’s a major career move for Martinez, I think the more interesting story is what Tino and his team are building in an industry where personality-driven radio sometimes feels like it’s fighting for survival.

The Tino Cochino Show isn’t looking for another voice to read entertainment headlines. It’s adding another personality to an already energetic room.

And that’s a very different proposition.

Martinez spent the past four years handling middays at Dallas-Fort Worth’s 106.1 Kiss-FM, one of the country’s most recognizable Contemporary Hit Radio brands. She also maintained an evening presence at San Antonio’s 104.5 Latino Hits KZEP.

Before Texas, she spent three years with iHeartMedia in Tucson, pulling double duty between afternoons at CHR 93.7 KRQ and middays at Country 92.9 The Bull.

Now think about that combination.

Country radio, Top 40, bilingual-market experience, and major-market personality broadcasting.

That’s a pretty interesting foundation for somebody joining a show built around relationships, humor, pop culture, and honest conversations.

And Martinez isn’t arriving somewhere that needs to learn how to entertain an audience.

The YEA Media Group-syndicated Tino Cochino Show has expanded to more than 95 markets, with a lineup that includes Tino Cochino, Nicasio, and executive producer Matt.

The program combines relationship discussions, listener interaction, comedy, celebrity conversations, and the kind of unpredictable moments that make personality radio worth listening to.

Its signature features include Battle of the Rosas and Are You Smarter Than Nicasio, with the show also maintaining a substantial podcast and digital presence.

That’s important.

Because the strongest syndicated programs today aren’t simply radio shows distributed to multiple cities.

They’re entertainment brands that can connect with listeners wherever those listeners happen to be.

And that’s where I think Martinez could make a significant contribution.

Great radio chemistry isn’t created by putting four interesting people in a studio and hoping somebody says something funny.

It’s built through timing, trust, preparation, and the willingness to let different personalities bring something meaningful to the conversation.

Martinez has already demonstrated an ability to work across formats and markets.

Now she’ll have the opportunity to bring her perspective to a show reaching audiences far beyond Dallas, San Antonio, or Tucson.

Tino has emphasized that personality, authenticity, and chemistry are central to the program’s identity, describing Martinez as someone who brings the confidence and energy needed for its next chapter.

And from a programming standpoint, I like the direction.

I’ve always believed the best radio shows make listeners feel like they’re sitting with a group of friends who happen to have microphones.

The conversations aren’t always polished.

The jokes aren’t always predictable.

And occasionally somebody says something that makes everybody else in the studio wonder whether the delay button is still working.

That’s part of the fun.

But underneath that spontaneity has to be discipline.

Everybody needs to understand their role.

Everybody needs to know when to contribute.

And everybody has to recognize that the audience is the most important person in the conversation.

That’s what separates great ensemble radio from a room full of people talking over one another.

The addition of Martinez also represents another interesting development for Latino representation in nationally syndicated English-language programming.

The Tino Cochino Show has built its identity around relatable experiences rather than expecting its audience to fit neatly into a single cultural category.

That approach reflects how many listeners actually live.

They’re comfortable moving between cultures, musical styles, communities, and conversations.

And they want entertainment that recognizes that reality.

For Martinez, the move is a substantial opportunity.

For YEA Media Group, it’s another investment in the people who make the program distinctive.

And for affiliates, it brings an additional established personality to a show already built around audience engagement.

I particularly appreciate seeing a broadcaster who developed her skills in local radio receive this kind of national opportunity.

Because despite everything changing in our business, local stations remain one of the most important training grounds for future national talent.

You learn how to connect with listeners.

You learn how to handle unexpected moments.

You learn how to make something entertaining when the carefully prepared segment suddenly falls apart.

And, if you’re fortunate, you learn how to become the kind of broadcaster audiences actually want to spend time with.

Congratulations to Celina Martinez on the move and to Tino Cochino and YEA Media Group on the addition.

The next challenge will be developing the chemistry that makes a new cast member feel as though she’s always belonged.

But judging from the experience Martinez brings and the personality-driven foundation the show has already established, there’s plenty of reason to be interested.

Dallas helped build Celina Martinez into a major-market personality. Now the rest of America gets to meet her.

And if Tino, Nicasio, and Matt thought they had enough opinions flying around the studio already, something tells me they’re about to discover otherwise.

That’s not a problem.

That’s good radio waiting to happen.
