Another frequency change is on the horizon for one of Central Pennsylvania’s most recognizable radio brands.
As Cumulus Media moves toward completing the sale of 106.7 WWKL to Family Life Ministries, the company has begun directing listeners to a new home for Hot 106.7. The Rhythmic CHR outlet will soon be heard on 96.5 FM, delivered via 93.5 WTPA-HD2.
For longtime Harrisburg listeners, it’s another chapter in a brand that has never been afraid to reinvent itself. Since debuting as Hot 92 in 2005, the station has migrated across multiple frequencies while maintaining its identity. It first aired on 92.1 FM, shifted to 93.5 FM in 2011, landed on 106.7 FM in 2018, and now prepares for its next move to 96.5 FM. The station also refreshed its musical direction in 2024, evolving into a Rhythmic CHR format focused on today’s biggest rhythmic and pop hits.
The move is directly tied to Cumulus Media’s previously announced agreement to sell WWKL and WLLF in Pennsylvania and Ohio to Family Life Ministries in a transaction valued at $2.25 million.
The new 96.5 signal has spent more than a decade carrying sports programming, making this a significant format change for listeners accustomed to hearing ESPN programming on the frequency.
While the frequency is changing once again, the message from Cumulus is clear: the Hot brand isn’t going anywhere. Instead, it’s simply finding its next home as another piece of the Harrisburg radio landscape is reshaped.
For a station that’s already proven its ability to survive multiple moves over the past two decades, this latest transition may be its biggest opportunity yet to continue building its audience in Central Pennsylvania.
