Oklahoma City sports radio just picked up another distinct lane.
Cumulus Media has ended 930 WKY’s simulcast of 98.1 The Sports Animal WWLS-FM and repositioned the AM signal around national sports programming from Westwood One Sports Network.
That may sound like a simple programming adjustment.

Instead of functioning primarily as another way to hear The Sports Animal, WKY now gets a separate identity built around national sports talk, major play-by-play and one of the most important local sports properties in the market.

Now the national package moves back to Cumulus, giving WKY, WWLS-FM and KWPN the ability to divide coverage across the cluster.
That includes major national broadcasts involving:
NFL football.
College football.
Baseball.
College basketball.
And additional basketball coverage.
The cluster will also have access to ESPN’s NFL and NBA play-by-play.
Translation?
Cumulus Oklahoma City just gave itself a pretty serious inventory of live sports.

We spend so much time discussing sports-talk personalities that sometimes the actual games get overlooked.
They shouldn’t.
