While much of the media world continues obsessing over video, algorithms, and shrinking attention spans, the Radio Mercury Awards are once again proving that audio storytelling remains one of the most powerful creative tools in advertising.

Finalists for the 2026 Radio Mercury Awards were announced this week, highlighting some of the year’s strongest and most inventive work across broadcast radio, streaming platforms, podcasts, and digital audio.

Now marking its 35th year, the competition continues serving as one of the audio industry’s highest-profile celebrations of creativity, honoring campaigns that use sound not simply to sell products—but to create memorable experiences that connect with audiences in real and lasting ways.

Among the organizations earning significant finalist recognition this year are Arnold Worldwide, Audacy Studios, and iHeartMedia’s Studio55, all of which emerged as major contenders heading into the awards presentation later this spring.

Produced annually by the Radio Advertising Bureau, the Radio Mercury Awards have evolved alongside the industry itself. What was once viewed primarily as a celebration of traditional radio commercials has expanded into a broader showcase for modern audio creativity in all forms.

And in today’s media environment, that matters more than ever.

Audio advertising has quietly become one of the most personal forms of media consumption anywhere. Unlike visual platforms constantly fighting for screen space, audio moves with the audience. It lives in cars, headphones, offices, gyms, kitchens, and late-night commutes. It reaches listeners in moments where connection often feels more intimate and less forced.

That’s exactly why major brands continue investing heavily in the space.

The strongest campaigns in this year’s competition reflect just how sophisticated audio storytelling has become. Creative teams are blending writing, sound design, pacing, music, and voice talent in ways that create emotional reactions without ever relying on visuals.

And when it works, it sticks.

Inside advertising circles, the Radio Mercury Awards have long carried a reputation for spotlighting the kind of work that pushes the medium forward creatively while also proving that radio and audio remain highly effective brand-building platforms.

This year’s finalists were selected by a panel of advertising and creative leaders from across the industry, with Bandits & Friends co-founder and co-chief creative officer Danny Gonzalez serving as chief judge for the competition.

The winners will be revealed June 3 during the annual awards presentation at SONY Hall in New York City. Nationally syndicated radio personality Angela Yee is scheduled to host the event.

As radio and audio continue evolving far beyond the traditional dashboard speaker, one thing remains clear: the creative heartbeat of the medium is still very much alive.

And if this year’s finalists are any indication, it’s not slowing down anytime soon.
