“Tanner In The Morning” To Exit WSOC-FM Charlotte As Rob Tanner, Catherine Lane And Chris Allen Accept Retirement Offers

One of Charlotte radio’s longest-running country morning shows is preparing to sign off.

The “Tanner In The Morning” show on Beasley Media Group’s Beasley Media Group Country outlet WSOC-FM “Country 103.7” will come to an end Friday, June 19, as Rob Tanner, Catherine Lane and technical director Chris Allen all depart the station after accepting the company’s voluntary early retirement packages.

The announcement was made on-air Tuesday morning, bringing an emotional moment to listeners across Charlotte and the Carolinas who have spent years waking up with the trio.

Tanner has anchored mornings at WSOC-FM since 2005 and became one of the most recognizable country radio voices in the market during the show’s two-decade run. Prior to Charlotte, Tanner worked in Lakeland, Little Rock and State College before eventually finding a long-term home in the Carolinas.

Lane has been a fixture in Charlotte radio for roughly 40 years and has spent nearly three decades with WSOC-FM. In addition to her role on the morning show, she has also hosted middays on the station since 2003. Her Charlotte radio resume includes previous stops at WEZC, WCKZ and WLIT.

Allen, meanwhile, had already been part of the WSOC-FM team before Tanner arrived in mornings and became a key behind-the-scenes and on-air contributor to the show’s chemistry and longevity.

The departure marks the end of one of the station’s most successful eras. The show built a loyal audience across the Carolinas and became heavily involved in community events, country artist relationships and charitable efforts throughout the Charlotte region.

According to comments shared publicly Tuesday, the trio reflected on the personal friendships built during the run and the deep connection formed with listeners over the years. Beasley executives also praised the show’s long-term audience impact and influence within the market.

The exit of Tanner, Lane and Allen also continues a growing trend of veteran personalities leaving the industry through retirement packages and restructuring efforts as radio companies continue navigating industry-wide financial pressures and changing operating models.

For WSOC-FM listeners, however, the focus this morning was less about corporate strategy and more about the end of a familiar routine.

After nearly 20 years together in mornings, one of Charlotte country radio’s signature shows is preparing for its final sign-on.
