Another Programming Veteran Is On The Move: J Love’s Departure Comes At A Pivotal Moment For Connoisseur’s Bay Area Transformation

Sometimes a departure is simply a career change.

Sometimes, it’s another piece of a much larger story.

After approximately one year leading programming for Bay Country and Mix 106.5 in the Bay Area, veteran programmer Jonathan “J Love” Campbell has departed Connoisseur Media, ending a tenure that coincides with one of the company’s most significant periods of transition.

Campbell joined the Bay Area operation in 2025 after more than a decade programming one of Las Vegas’ leading Hot AC stations. His career spans more than three decades and includes leadership roles in San Francisco, Reno, Providence, San Diego, Detroit, New Orleans, Greenville, and other major radio markets, making him one of the industry’s most experienced contemporary programmers.

His departure comes just days before another major milestone for the company as Bay Country prepares to relocate to a new position on the dial as part of Connoisseur Media’s ongoing Bay Area realignment following the pending sale of the 94.5 FM license.

Here’s the alternative perspective.

This isn’t simply about one programmer leaving one company.

It’s another reminder that major station transitions often bring leadership changes as well.

When companies acquire stations, reposition brands, relocate formats, or reshape market strategies, the organizational chart frequently evolves alongside the programming.

That’s part of today’s radio business.

Program Directors are no longer simply music schedulers.

They’re expected to oversee multiple brands, develop digital strategies, manage talent, interpret audience research, coordinate marketing, and help execute long-term business objectives. As companies change direction, leadership teams often change with them.

There’s another takeaway.

J Love’s résumé illustrates something increasingly common among successful radio executives: adaptability.

Over three decades, he’s programmed CHR, Hot AC, and Country stations across markets of every size while working for multiple ownership groups. That ability to evolve has become one of the industry’s most valuable skills.

Meanwhile, Connoisseur Media continues navigating one of the Bay Area’s most ambitious portfolio transformations in recent years. Between frequency moves, format repositioning, and ownership changes, the company is reshaping how its stations compete in one of America’s most competitive radio markets.

Personnel changes are often part of that process.

For J Love, another chapter begins.

For Connoisseur Media, the Bay Area evolution continues.

And for the industry, it’s another reminder that behind every format change or frequency move are the programmers and leaders helping shape what listeners ultimately hear.
