Saga Communications Elevates Paul O’Malley As Company Doubles Down On Revenue Growth

As radio continues evolving into a multi-platform marketing business, Saga Communications is placing one of its most respected executives in a position to help shape the company’s next chapter.

The broadcaster has promoted Paul O’Malley to Senior Vice President of Revenue Development, expanding his responsibilities beyond Charleston, South Carolina, to help guide revenue strategy across Saga’s nationwide portfolio.

In his new corporate role, O’Malley will work closely with market managers, sales teams, and clients to strengthen consultative selling, grow digital advertising initiatives, and develop new business opportunities throughout the company.

The promotion creates an opening atop Saga’s Charleston Radio Group, where O’Malley has served as President and General Manager since joining the company in 2018. Saga has begun the search for his successor while he transitions into his expanded corporate leadership position.

O’Malley’s career spans some of broadcasting’s most recognizable companies. Before joining Saga, he served as Senior Vice President of Music & Entertainment for Westwood One in Atlanta and previously held executive leadership positions with Citadel Communications, Katz Radio, and Star 98.7 (KYSR) in Los Angeles.

A Personal Perspective From On The Dial

For On The Dial President/Publisher Steven Mills, this story is more than another executive promotion.

Mills had the opportunity to work alongside O’Malley during their time at the Westwood One corporate headquarters in Atlanta, where O’Malley served as Senior Vice President of Music & Entertainment.

“Paul has always been one of those leaders who never asked anyone to do something he wasn’t willing to do himself,” Mills said. “His work ethic is second to none, and he consistently went the extra mile to make sure projects were completed the right way. He’s respected throughout this industry because he leads with integrity, professionalism, and a genuine commitment to helping others succeed. Simply put, Paul is one of the good guys.”

The Alternative Perspective

This promotion isn’t just about recognizing a successful executive.

It’s about recognizing what today’s radio companies value most.

There was a time when corporate leadership was primarily divided between programming, engineering, and sales.

Today’s media landscape demands something different.

Revenue development now requires leaders who understand traditional broadcasting, digital advertising, integrated marketing, analytics, client partnerships, and emerging technologies. Success isn’t measured solely by commercial inventory anymore—it’s measured by helping businesses solve marketing challenges across multiple platforms.

Saga’s decision reflects that changing reality.

By elevating an executive with experience spanning network radio, local broadcasting, national sales, and corporate leadership, the company is reinforcing the idea that tomorrow’s growth won’t come from doing radio the way it was done yesterday.

It will come from building stronger partnerships, embracing innovation, and developing new revenue opportunities wherever audiences and advertisers intersect.

For those who know Paul O’Malley, the promotion comes as little surprise.

It’s the latest chapter in a career built on leadership, relationships, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.
