Labor Day is more than a three-day weekend, a day off from work or an excuse to fire up the grill one more time before summer officially starts winding down. Labor Day is about the people who work. The people who punch the clock, answer the phones, build the businesses, run the transmitters, sell the spots, write the news, produce the shows, program the music, fix the equipment, create the digital content and somehow keep radio moving forward every single day.

For an industry like broadcasting, that means something.

Radio has never been powered by equipment alone. It has always been powered by people. The personalities who wake up before sunrise, the producers who make the show sound effortless, the engineers who keep the signal alive, the sales teams building relationships with advertisers, the promotions people working events on weekends, the programmers making thousands of decisions nobody in the audience ever sees and the countless others whose names may never appear on a billboard but whose work keeps the business moving.

That is what Labor Day gives us a chance to recognize.

So, for one day, On The Dial is stepping away from the newsroom.

Our offices will be closed Monday, September 7, 2026, as our team takes a well-earned break for Labor Day. We will return to the office and resume regular coverage Tuesday, September 8.

When we come back, we’ll be doing what we do every day: watching the industry, listening to the radio, following the people making moves and telling the stories behind the headlines.

Because radio doesn’t happen because there is a transmitter on a tower.

Radio happens because somebody shows up.

Somebody opens the studio door. Somebody hits the first song. Somebody answers the request line. Somebody sells the commercial. Somebody fixes the board. Somebody writes the morning show prep. Somebody takes the overnight shift. Somebody stays late because the work isn’t finished.

And somebody, somewhere, is still listening.

That’s labor.

That’s radio.

And that’s worth celebrating.

Happy Labor Day from all of us at On The Dial.

Take the day. Turn the radio up. Fire up the grill. Spend time with the people you love.

We’ll see you back in the newsroom Tuesday, September 8.
