Six weeks. That’s all it took.
After bringing veteran broadcaster and news executive Lee Harris into the fold to help launch the Worldwide News Network, Red Apple Media is already expanding his role in a significant way.
The company has elevated Harris to Senior Vice President of News and Programming, giving him a larger hand in shaping the future of 77 WABC and Red Apple Audio Networks. The promotion places Harris at the center of programming strategy and content development as Red Apple continues its aggressive push for growth across multiple platforms.
Harris joined Red Apple Media in early May as Vice President of News for the newly formed Worldwide News Network. The move reunited one of New York radio’s most recognizable news voices with a company eager to broaden its reach. Before joining Red Apple, Harris spent more than three decades at 1010 WINS, becoming one of the most respected news anchors in the country and earning induction into the National Radio Hall of Fame in 2024. He has also consulted internationally and held leadership positions in television news.
Red Apple Media owner John Catsimatidis praised Harris’ leadership abilities, pointing to his track record of building successful teams and creating content that resonates with audiences as the company continues to expand its influence in broadcast and digital media.
For his part, Harris called Red Apple Media one of the most innovative organizations in today’s media landscape, crediting Catsimatidis and President Chad Lopez for building something unique. He said he’s energized by the opportunity to help create programming that informs, entertains, and connects with listeners while expanding the company’s footprint both nationally and around the world.
The promotion also adds another layer of intrigue surrounding the future direction of 77 WABC. While the legendary New York signal remains synonymous with conservative talk, Harris’ career has been deeply rooted in hard news. Whether his expanded influence ultimately leads to new programming initiatives or a broader news strategy remains an open question.
One thing isn’t up for debate: Lee Harris has quickly become one of Red Apple Media’s key architects. The Worldwide News Network launched at breakneck speed, and this latest move makes it clear the company is betting that Harris will help lead its next chapter of growth.
