One of broadcasting’s most respected communications executives is taking on one of the industry’s most influential leadership positions.
The New York State Broadcasters Association (NYSBA) has selected Heidi Raphael as its next President and Chief Executive Officer, ushering in a new era for the organization that represents hundreds of radio and television stations throughout New York.
Raphael succeeds David Donovan, who has led the association for the past 15 years. While stepping aside as CEO, Donovan will continue serving the organization by focusing on government relations and legislative advocacy at both the state and federal levels, ensuring continuity as NYSBA navigates an increasingly complex regulatory environment.
For Raphael, the appointment caps a distinguished career spanning more than three decades in broadcasting and corporate communications.
Most recently, she served as Chief Communications Officer for Beasley Media Group, where she became one of the company’s most recognizable executive voices. Before joining Beasley, Raphael spent more than 20 years with Greater Media, steadily rising through the organization to become Senior Vice President of Corporate Communications while helping guide one of the industry’s most respected privately owned broadcast companies.
This move represents more than a leadership change.
It places one of radio’s most experienced advocates at the forefront of issues affecting broadcasters across New York, including legislative priorities, regulatory matters, emergency communications, local journalism, and the future of over-the-air broadcasting.
Trade associations have never played a more important role.
As broadcasters continue adapting to evolving technology, changing listener habits, and an increasingly competitive media landscape, organizations like NYSBA remain critical in ensuring the industry’s voice is heard by lawmakers and regulators.
For Heidi Raphael, the microphone has changed.
Instead of speaking for one broadcast company, she’ll now help represent an entire state’s broadcasting community.
