A familiar name to many in broadcasting is taking the reins of one of country music’s most influential organizations.
The Academy of Country Music (ACM) has appointed longtime media executive Andy Schuon as its new Chief Executive Officer, bringing decades of experience spanning radio, television, streaming, and the music business into the role.
While Schuon has built an impressive career across multiple corners of the entertainment industry, his roots trace back to radio. He got his start as a teenager at KOZZ in Reno before working at stations in San Antonio and Denver. His national profile grew during his tenure as Program Director of KROQ/Los Angeles, where he helped shape one of the country’s most influential Alternative stations, including the launches of the legendary Kevin & Bean morning show and Loveline.
Schuon later expanded into television, digital media, and the recording industry, serving in executive leadership positions with MTV Networks, Warner Records, Universal Music Group, LiveOne/Slacker Radio, and several startup ventures. His radio leadership also includes serving as President of Programming for CBS Radio, where he oversaw programming strategy for one of the nation’s largest broadcast groups.
In announcing his appointment, Schuon said the defining theme of his career has been embracing innovation while remaining committed to artists and the power of music to connect people. He said he sees an opportunity to build on the Academy’s legacy by expanding its reach, strengthening relationships throughout the country music community, and helping guide the organization through its next chapter of growth.
ACM Board Chair Cris Lacy praised Schuon’s long record of innovation and leadership, saying his background makes him well-positioned to help the Academy continue evolving while serving artists, members, and the broader country music industry.
Former ACM CEO Damon Whiteside will remain with the organization as CEO Emeritus through the end of 2026 to assist with the leadership transition.
For those in broadcasting, Schuon’s appointment represents the return of a seasoned radio programmer to a highly visible leadership role—one whose influence has already been felt across radio, television, digital media, and music for more than four decades.
