Every broadcaster knows someone who has faced the unimaginable.
A devastating illness. A home destroyed by a natural disaster. A career interrupted by circumstances beyond their control.
While the headlines often celebrate ratings victories and blockbuster acquisitions, one of broadcasting’s most meaningful traditions happens quietly every year—industry leaders coming together to help colleagues when life takes an unexpected turn.
That tradition will continue this September as FOX Television Stations CEO Jack Abernethy has been selected to lead the Broadcasters Foundation of America’s 2026 Celebrity Golf Tournament, one of the organization’s largest annual fundraising events. The tournament is set for September 14 at Siwanoy Country Club in Bronxville, New York, and is expected to once again attract executives, broadcasters, athletes, entertainers, and industry leaders from across the country.
But make no mistake.
This isn’t really about golf.
It’s about ensuring that broadcasters who have spent their careers serving communities don’t have to face personal crises alone.
For decades, the Broadcasters Foundation of America has quietly provided emergency financial assistance to radio and television professionals experiencing severe hardships, whether from serious medical conditions, devastating storms, or other life-changing emergencies. Many of those stories never make headlines, yet the Foundation has become one of the industry’s most important safety nets.
The annual celebrity tournament has evolved into more than a fundraising event. It’s become a gathering place where competitors become teammates and rivals unite behind a shared belief that the broadcasting community takes care of its own.
With Abernethy serving as this year’s chair, the Foundation continues a tradition of industry leadership supporting an organization whose work often happens far from the spotlight—but whose impact is felt by broadcasters and their families nationwide.
On The Dial: In broadcasting, we’re often competitors on the air. But when one of our own needs help, those call letters disappear and one industry comes together. The Broadcasters Foundation of America continues to demonstrate the very best of radio and television—not through ratings or revenue, but through compassion. We applaud Jack Abernethy, the Foundation’s leadership, every sponsor, every volunteer, and every participant who helps ensure our industry’s greatest strength remains the people behind the microphone and the camera.
