Charlotte radio marked the end of an era at midnight as Mix 100.9/99.3 officially left the air.

The station’s final song was “Killer Queen” by 5 Seconds of Summer. As the track came to a close, WLNK 100.9 quietly signed off, leaving listeners with static. On sister signal WMXG 99.3, a brief period of silence was followed by programming from the Good News Network.

There was no farewell show, no retrospective and no final goodbye to listeners. The station simply disappeared from the dial.

For decades, Mix served as one of Charlotte’s most familiar radio brands, connecting with generations of listeners through music, personalities and community involvement. Its departure closes a significant chapter in the market’s radio history.

While format changes and ownership transitions have long been part of the broadcast business, few moments resonate more than the loss of a heritage brand. For many listeners, Mix was a daily companion at work, in the car and at home.

The station’s final moments were remarkably understated. No announcement marked the end. No special programming acknowledged the occasion. One moment Mix was playing music. The next, it was gone.

Radio stations come and go, but heritage brands leave lasting impressions on the communities they serve. Mix 100.9/99.3 leaves behind decades of memories, familiar voices and a legacy that helped shape Charlotte radio.
