Another respected programming voice is departing iHeartMedia as Ryan Maddox exits the company’s National Programming Team following a career that spanned more than two decades.
Maddox’s journey with iHeart began while he was still a teenager, getting his first on-air opportunities at heritage CHR WFLZ Tampa. What started as a passion for radio quickly evolved into a career that would take him from local programming responsibilities to a key role influencing music and content strategy across the company’s national platform.
After establishing himself in Tampa, Maddox joined Atlanta’s CHR scene, spending six years at Power 96.1 WWPW. During his tenure, he served in multiple leadership roles, including Assistant Program Director and Music Director, while also maintaining an on-air presence.
In 2020, Maddox transitioned to iHeartMedia’s National Programming Team, where he became involved in music strategy, playlist curation and programming initiatives across the company’s extensive portfolio. Along the way, he continued contributing to individual stations, including Honolulu’s Pop 101.9 KUCD.
His departure comes amid the latest round of workforce reductions impacting the radio industry, ending a 22-year run with one of the nation’s largest audio companies.
Known throughout the industry for his deep music knowledge, programming instincts and ability to identify emerging trends, Maddox leaves behind a body of work that touched multiple markets and platforms. As he begins exploring new opportunities, his experience spanning programming, talent development, music curation and audience engagement is expected to draw significant interest from across the media and entertainment landscape.
Few broadcasters have the opportunity to grow from a teenage weekend air talent into a national programming leader. Maddox accomplished exactly that, building a career that reflects both the opportunities and evolution of modern radio.
