There are days when the headlines aren’t about ratings, format flips, talent moves, or billion-dollar mergers.
Today is about something far more important.
Today is Giving Day for the Broadcasters Foundation of America, a day dedicated to helping the people who have spent their lives serving listeners and viewers through radio and television, only to find themselves facing devastating illnesses, natural disasters, or overwhelming financial hardship.
For more than 15 years, the Foundation has provided over $20 million in emergency assistance to broadcasters from more than 200 companies across 45 states and U.S. territories. Those aren’t just statistics. They’re engineers who kept stations on the air. Morning hosts who became part of our daily routines. Salespeople, producers, reporters, board operators, television anchors, photographers, and countless others whose careers were interrupted by circumstances they never saw coming.
Broadcasting has always been about community. When disaster strikes our neighborhoods, radio and television are there first. Today, the industry is asking us to be there for one another.
Whether you’ve worked behind a microphone, behind a camera, in programming, engineering, promotions, sales, management, or anywhere else in this incredible business, Giving Day is a reminder that no broadcaster should have to face life’s darkest moments alone.
If this industry has ever opened a door for you, inspired you, or given you a career you love, today is an opportunity to give something back. Every contribution, regardless of size, helps ensure that a fellow broadcaster can focus on healing instead of wondering how they’re going to pay the next bill.
One day, the voice needing help could be one we’ve listened to for decades… or it could be our own.
On The Dial proudly supports the men and women who dedicate their lives to serving their communities through broadcasting. Today, let’s serve them.
