For country music fans who believe the genre’s greatest era came on cassette tapes and CDs, there’s a brand-new destination on the dial.
Great Eastern Radio has officially launched Backroads 104.3, introducing a Classic Country format to listeners across the Burlington, Vermont and Keeseville, New York region. Branded as “Country Throwbacks,” the station is dedicated to the legendary artists and timeless hits that defined country music throughout the 1980s and 1990s.
The playlist is built around some of the biggest names the genre has ever produced, including George Strait, Alan Jackson, Brooks & Dunn, Reba McEntire, Joe Diffie, Clint Black, Patty Loveless, Travis Tritt, and Randy Travis—artists whose music helped shape one of country’s most celebrated generations.
The launch follows Great Eastern Radio’s recent expansion in the Burlington market. After acquiring WTNN (Eagle Country 97.5) earlier this year and incorporating it into its existing country network, the company repositioned WJKS 104.3, creating an opportunity to introduce a format aimed squarely at listeners who still treasure the songs that defined modern country radio.
Classic Country has experienced a resurgence in many parts of the country as listeners continue seeking familiar artists and songs that remain deeply woven into their lives. By giving those recordings a dedicated home, Great Eastern Radio is betting that timeless country music still has plenty of miles left on the open road.
For fans who grew up with the voices that helped build today’s country music landscape, Backroads 104.3 offers a soundtrack filled with memories, sing-alongs, and the songs that continue to stand the test of time.
