Townsquare Media Mourns Loss of KFYO Host Chad Hasty at 43

The West Texas radio community is mourning the loss of one of its most recognizable and respected voices.

Chad Hasty, longtime host on News/Talk 95.1 & 790 KFYO in Lubbock and a key member of the Townsquare Media family, has died at the age of 43. According to the station, Hasty passed away peacefully in his sleep Thursday morning.

Hasty had been a fixture on KFYO since 2003, building a strong connection with listeners through years of political coverage, interviews, and community-focused conversation. He launched his own program in 2006 and most recently hosted afternoons, where his voice remained a constant presence across the region.

In a statement released by Townsquare Media, Lubbock Market President Dan Endom said,
“We are stunned and heartbroken by the sudden passing of our beloved KFYO family member, Chad Hasty. Chad was not only a brilliant on-air host, but an even better friend. Our deepest condolences go out to Jennifer and his baby girl, Ava.”

The impact of Hasty’s work extended well beyond the airwaves. Known for his ability to engage listeners on politics, public policy, and everyday issues, he became a trusted voice in West Texas — one who could challenge, inform, and connect with audiences in equal measure.

Tributes from across Texas quickly followed news of his passing, including elected officials and community leaders who pointed to his influence in shaping public dialogue and keeping audiences informed.

KFYO announced it will honor Hasty’s legacy with a special broadcast dedicated to his life and career, underscoring the lasting imprint he leaves on the station and the community he served.

He is survived by his wife, Jennifer, and their daughter, Ava.

For Townsquare Media and the broader radio industry, the loss is both personal and professional — a reminder of the kind of connection that only live, local radio can create.

And the kind of voice that can never truly be replaced.
