Another signal is changing hands in one of the Southwest’s largest radio markets.
Zelus Media has reached an agreement to sell Hot AC-formatted Hot 97.5 (KMVA), licensed to Dewey-Humboldt and serving the Phoenix market, to Good News Broadcasting Network in a transaction valued at $1.5 million.
The acquisition gives Good News Broadcasting Network its first major commercial-market signal in metropolitan Phoenix. The organization, affiliated with the Seventh-day Adventist Church, currently operates a collection of non-commercial radio stations across Arizona and New Mexico, most of which air programming from the Radio74 Internationale network. Its media portfolio also includes several low-power television stations in Arizona, California, and Washington.
While the station is changing owners, Zelus Media will retain ownership of the KMVA call letters along with the station’s intellectual property, leaving open the possibility that the Hot 97.5 brand could reappear elsewhere in the future.
The sale does not significantly alter Zelus Media’s presence in Phoenix. The company will continue operating a diverse group of stations that includes 103.9 KZON, 95.1 The Wow Factor (KOAI), Power 98.3 (KKFR), 94.9 The Zone, and Xtasis 96.1, maintaining a strong footprint across multiple formats in the market.
The transaction also raises questions about what’s next for the 97.5 frequency. With Good News Broadcasting Network’s history of airing Christian programming through its existing stations, listeners can likely expect a dramatically different sound once the sale receives regulatory approval and the new owners take control.
It’s another reminder that even in major markets like Phoenix, the radio dial continues to evolve as broadcasters reposition signals to serve new audiences and long-term strategic goals.
