A New Carolina Radio Powerhouse Emerges: Curtis Media Group Expands Its Coastal Footprint

The ink is dry, the paperwork is complete, and North Carolina’s radio landscape has officially changed.

Curtis Media Group has finalized its acquisition of a collection of coastal North Carolina radio stations from Capitol Broadcasting Company, strengthening its presence across one of the state’s fastest-growing regions and adding several well-established signals to its expanding portfolio.

The completed transaction includes stations serving Jacksonville, Wilmington, Southport, Wrightsville Beach, and surrounding coastal communities. Among the properties joining Curtis Media Group are WRMR-FM (98.7), WKXB-FM (99.9), WAZO-FM (107.5), WILT-FM (103.7), along with Wilmington’s WMFD-AM (630) and its accompanying FM translators.

For listeners, the transition may initially be seamless. Behind the scenes, however, the acquisition represents another example of locally focused ownership continuing to invest in regional broadcasting at a time when many companies are reevaluating their portfolios.

Curtis Media Group has long built its reputation by concentrating on North Carolina communities, giving the company an intimate understanding of the markets it serves. Adding this collection of stations strengthens that strategy while expanding its reach along the state’s coastal corridor, an area that continues to experience both residential and economic growth.

For Capitol Broadcasting Company, the sale marks another step in refining its media holdings, while Curtis gains additional opportunities to grow local programming, community partnerships, and advertising relationships throughout eastern North Carolina.

Kalil & Co. served as the exclusive broker in facilitating the transaction.

This isn’t simply another station sale.

It’s another reminder that while the ownership map of American radio continues to evolve, strong regional broadcasters still see tremendous value in investing close to home.

On The Dial: Every acquisition tells a story about where broadcasters believe the future is headed. Curtis Media Group continues to make a strong statement that local radio—and local ownership—remain powerful forces in today’s media landscape. Congratulations to everyone involved as these stations begin a new chapter under Curtis Media Group’s leadership. We’ll be watching to see what’s next along North Carolina’s growing radio coast.
