El Paso radio is about to lose one-half of a morning team that has spent nearly three years making listeners laugh, connect and feel like part of the family. Fernando “Grizz” Montejano is preparing to leave Townsquare Media’s 93.1 Kiss-FM (KSII), and while his next destination remains a mystery, the reason behind his decision says plenty about the man behind the microphone.
Since March 2024, Grizz has shared mornings with Iris Lopez, building a show around personality, community and the kind of chemistry that makes listeners feel like they’re hanging out with friends rather than listening to a radio station.
But sometimes the biggest opportunity in radio comes with the toughest goodbye.
Montejano revealed that an unexpected career offer has opened a door he simply couldn’t turn down. He hasn’t identified the station, company or market, but he made clear that the opportunity represents something bigger than a new microphone or a better time slot.
It represents a chance to build a better future for the people who depend on him.
And that deserves some respect.
In an industry where personalities sometimes disappear from the airwaves without so much as a goodbye, Grizz is doing something refreshing. He’s telling his listeners why he’s leaving, thanking them for the relationship they’ve built and giving El Paso time to celebrate the remaining weeks together.
His departure is scheduled for the end of 2026, with his next radio adventure beginning in 2027.
Meanwhile, Townsquare Media has begun searching for a new personality to join the Kiss-FM operation. Whoever gets that opportunity will be stepping into a station with an established morning presence and listeners who have grown accustomed to the chemistry between Grizz and Iris.
Of course, the biggest unanswered question is where Grizz is headed.
A larger market? A bigger morning show? A completely different radio adventure?
For now, the destination remains under wraps, and anything beyond that would be speculation. But the announcement certainly gives the radio industry another personality move to watch as 2027 approaches.
From the On The Dial perspective, this is the kind of departure that reminds us radio careers aren’t built on ratings books alone. They’re built on relationships, family decisions, unexpected opportunities and knowing when it’s time to take a chance.
Grizz may be leaving El Paso, but he isn’t leaving quietly. He’s giving the city a proper farewell, and that’s something listeners don’t always get anymore.
Here’s wishing Grizz success wherever that next microphone happens to be.
And to whoever is about to hire him, congratulations. You’ve apparently made an offer he couldn’t refuse.
Now, would somebody please tell the rest of us where he’s going?
