A legendary chapter in Central Nebraska radio came to a close Friday as Mark “Reido” Reid retired from Usher Media Group’s CHR station Hits 106 (KQKY), ending a remarkable 41-year run with the station.
Originally from Perth, Australia, Reid built his entire broadcasting career in the Grand Island-Hastings-Kearney market. He first entered radio in 1985 as a board operator at KGFW before moving to KQKY, where he would become one of the region’s most recognizable personalities. Over the years, Reid worked nearly every daypart, spent close to three decades hosting middays, and held programming and music leadership roles at the station. He also served as a weekend weathercaster for local television for two decades.
Reid’s impact extended well beyond the airwaves. Throughout his career, he helped mentor countless broadcasters while becoming a familiar voice to generations of listeners across Central Nebraska. His longevity and deep ties to the community made him one of the market’s most respected radio figures.
With Reid stepping away, Tyler Cavalli assumes operations leadership responsibilities for the cluster. Cavalli joined the company following a successful run with the Nebraska Rural Radio Association and now helps lead the next chapter for the stations.
Reid’s retirement marks the end of one of the longest and most distinguished careers in Nebraska broadcasting, closing a 41-year journey that began behind the scenes and evolved into a lasting legacy on the air.
