The radio business has a funny way of bringing people exactly where they’re supposed to be.
Just a few months after becoming one of many talented broadcasters caught in another round of industry layoffs, Connecticut broadcasting veteran Allison Demers isn’t simply returning to the airwaves—she’s stepping into a role built around faith, service, and community. Beginning August 3, Demers will become the new Faith & Ministry News Director and afternoon host at WIHS-FM in Middletown, where she’ll spend weekday afternoons connecting listeners with inspiration, ministry, and local stories that matter.
For anyone familiar with Connecticut broadcasting, this isn’t the arrival of a new voice.
It’s the return of one of the state’s most recognizable ones.
Over the past three decades, Demers has built a career that has crossed nearly every corner of Connecticut media. From radio newsrooms and morning shows to television reporting and public affairs programming, she has earned a reputation as a trusted communicator with a genuine passion for serving her audience.
Her career has included stops at MetroNetworks, WKCI, WRCH, WTIC, WATR, the Archdiocese of Hartford’s Office of Radio and Television, WJMJ, WTNH, and most recently iHeartMedia’s WHCN, where she wore multiple hats ranging from on-air personality to programming leadership and public service. Along the way, she became one of those broadcasters whose credibility was built not on celebrity, but on consistency, professionalism, and authenticity.
Like so many accomplished broadcasters, Demers unexpectedly found herself on the sidelines following industry workforce reductions earlier this year.
It didn’t last long.
Her appointment at WIHS is more than another job announcement. It’s another reminder that great broadcasters rarely stay off the air for very long. Experience, credibility, and the ability to connect with people remain some of radio’s most valuable assets—and Demers has demonstrated all three throughout her career.
Even more importantly, this role appears uniquely suited to her background. Having spent years covering community issues, faith initiatives, and public service programming, she’ll now have the opportunity to combine those experiences in a format centered on encouragement, hope, and ministry.
Sometimes careers don’t simply continue.
