Every September, the sounds of boots on dirt, roaring crowds, country legends, and hometown pride take over Pasadena, Texas.
This year, one Houston radio station is making sure that excitement doesn’t stop at the fairgrounds.
Radio One Houston has transformed KKBQ-HD2 into Pasadena Rodeo Radio, a temporary rebrand celebrating the upcoming 77th Pasadena Livestock Show & Rodeo, creating a station dedicated to honoring one of Texas’ longest-running community traditions. The special identity will remain in place through the rodeo’s September 18-26 run while continuing to feature an extensive library of Classic Country spanning nearly seven decades of music.
This isn’t simply a logo change.
It’s a full-scale community takeover.
Listeners will hear more than timeless country favorites from the 1930s through the 1990s. Throughout the day, the station will spotlight the people, programs, traditions, and mission behind the Pasadena Livestock Show & Rodeo, giving audiences an inside look at an event that has impacted generations of Texans through scholarships, youth programs, agriculture, and community service.
Adding even more authenticity to the project, Pasadena Livestock Show & Rodeo Executive Board Vice President Bear Hebert becomes one of the station’s signature voices, lending his unmistakable style to imaging and special features designed to tell the story behind one of Southeast Texas’ most cherished annual events.
While many stations create promotional campaigns around major community events, few go as far as temporarily reinventing an entire brand around the celebration. It’s an ambitious move that demonstrates how local radio can still become an active participant in the communities it serves rather than simply reporting on them.
In an era dominated by algorithms and playlists, this is radio doing something streaming services simply can’t replicate.
It’s local.
It’s personal.
And it’s unmistakably Texas.
On The Dial: This is exactly the kind of creative broadcasting that reminds us why local radio still matters. Instead of simply promoting an event, Radio One Houston has built an entire on-air experience around one of the region’s greatest traditions. That’s more than great marketing—it’s great community radio. Congratulations to the entire Radio One Houston team and the Pasadena Livestock Show & Rodeo for creating a partnership that celebrates Texas heritage in a way only local broadcasting can.
