WTOP Completes Morning Drive Transition With Kristin Diaz

WTOP Washington has officially completed its latest morning drive transition as Kristin Diaz steps into the chair previously occupied by longtime anchor Michelle Basch.

Basch announced last year that she would be departing WTOP’s morning drive lineup after spending nearly two decades with the Hubbard Radio all-news powerhouse. Her final morning broadcast took place earlier this year, closing out a significant run at one of the nation’s most respected spoken-word radio brands.

Before joining WTOP in 2006, Basch worked at 105.9 WMAL in Washington and 790 KABC in Los Angeles. In 2023, she moved into WTOP’s morning drive anchor role alongside John Aaron, helping lead one of the most listened-to news operations in the country.

WTOP previously confirmed that Basch and her husband planned to relocate to Northeast Pennsylvania following her exit from the morning shift. Despite leaving mornings, Basch continues to remain connected to WTOP as a reporter.

Taking over the morning role is Kristin Diaz, who joins WTOP after serving as PM drive co-anchor at NewsRadio 1080 KRLD Dallas since 2020. WTOP formally announced Diaz’s addition earlier this year as part of the station’s ongoing evolution of its anchor lineup.

The move marks another major talent transition for WTOP as the station continues maintaining its position as one of America’s premier all-news radio operations.

On The Dial continues covering the personalities, newsroom changes, and major talent moves shaping spoken-word radio and news broadcasting across America every single day.
