Sometimes the best hire isn’t about bringing in someone new.
It’s about bringing someone home.
Audacy has tapped Bay Area native Andre “Dre Boogs” Yancey as the new Brand Manager of Rhythmic Throwbacks 102 Jams (KRBQ), putting a programmer with deep local roots in charge of one of Northern California’s heritage rhythmic brands. While his new responsibilities take him back to the Bay Area, Yancey will continue operating from New York, where he also serves as Assistant Brand Manager for 94.7 The Block (WXBK).
For Yancey, the appointment represents something of a full-circle moment.
His radio journey began in San Francisco, where he worked his way from the promotional street team into the morning show at legendary Hip Hop outlet KMEL. That foundation launched a career spanning programming, digital strategy, content creation, and syndication, with stops that included United Stations Radio Networks and several high-profile national projects. Along the way, he also played key roles behind the scenes in New York, including work with Scott Shannon and collaborations on nationally syndicated programming.
Now, he returns to the market where it all began—this time as the person helping shape the future of one of its most recognizable stations.
The move also reflects Audacy’s growing confidence in developing programming leadership that stretches across multiple markets. Today’s brand managers are no longer confined to one building or one city. Technology has transformed programming into a role that often spans time zones, allowing experienced leaders to guide multiple brands while remaining closely connected to local teams and audiences.
Yancey succeeds Ben “Complex” Romero in overseeing KRBQ’s day-to-day programming. Romero’s responsibilities have continued to expand across the West, including stations in Sacramento and, more recently, Phoenix, illustrating the increasingly regional approach many broadcasters are taking with programming leadership.
For 102 Jams, the appointment signals continuity with a fresh perspective.
For Dre Boogs, it’s a return to the city where his career first found its rhythm.
On The Dial: The best radio stories often come full circle, and this is one of them. A hometown broadcaster who started by handing out station swag now returns to help lead one of the Bay Area’s signature brands. Congratulations to Dre Boogs and the entire Audacy team as they write the next chapter for 102 Jams. We’ll be watching to see how this homecoming shapes one of the country’s most influential rhythmic stations.
