BREAKING: Emily Boldon Exits Audacy Atlanta—One Of Radio’s Brightest Programming Minds Is Ready For Her Next Chapter

The radio business is filled with talented people, but every so often you come across someone who doesn’t simply program stations—they help shape the way an entire company thinks about programming. Emily Boldon has been one of those rare leaders throughout her career. News of her departure from Audacy’s Star 94 (WSTR) in Atlanta may be another executive move on the surface, but those who know the industry understand this is a much bigger story than a single job change. It’s the latest chapter for one of broadcasting’s most respected programming executives.

Boldon has exited her role as Brand Manager of Star 94 following just over a year leading the Atlanta Hot AC station. Industry sources indicate the station’s programming responsibilities will transition to regional oversight as Audacy continues refining its organizational structure.

Her career, however, has never been defined by one station.

Before joining Audacy, Boldon served in senior programming leadership at Cox Media Group Atlanta, overseeing operations while helping shape Adult Contemporary and Hot AC brands across the company. Prior to that, she spent more than 20 years at Cumulus Media, where she became one of the company’s most influential programming leaders.

While many know Emily as an outstanding brand manager and strategist, those of us who worked inside Cumulus know another side of her legacy. She was the operational brain behind the Stratus Music Scheduling System for many years, helping develop and refine the platform that guided programming decisions across hundreds of stations nationwide. Most listeners never knew her name—but countless programmers benefited from her work every single day.

A Personal Perspective From Steven Mills

This one hits differently.

I had the privilege of working alongside Emily at Cumulus.

Actually…

She was my boss.

And let me say this with as much respect and appreciation as I possibly can.

Emily was never afraid to tell you exactly what she thought.

She wasn’t going to dance around an issue.

She wasn’t going to tell you what you wanted to hear.

If your idea needed work, she’d tell you.

If your station could be better, she’d tell you.

If you were capable of more, she’d absolutely let you know.

At the time, those conversations weren’t always the easiest.

Today, I realize how valuable they were.

Emily expected excellence because she pursued excellence herself. She challenged people because she believed they could be better. She demanded preparation, accountability, and execution—not because she wanted control, but because she wanted great radio.

That’s leadership.

That’s why she has my respect.

And that’s why I have no doubt another company will recognize exactly what they’re getting.

Radio is losing a programmer.

The industry is gaining an opportunity.

On The Dial: The best programmers don’t just build great stations—they build great people, great systems, and lasting legacies. Emily Boldon has done all three throughout an extraordinary career. From all of us at On The Dial—and from me personally—thank you for everything you’ve contributed to our industry. Here’s wishing you nothing but success as your next chapter begins. Radio is better because of leaders like you.
