The audience has spoken.
And this time, ownership listened.
Just months after a major frequency shuffle reshaped the Coachella Valley radio dial, MeTV FM is making its return, reclaiming 92.1 FM and bringing its signature blend of timeless favorites back to listeners who never stopped asking for it. The revived station will replace the current simulcast of Sunny 106.5 on the signal serving the eastern Coachella Valley, marking another bold programming move by locally owned KGAY PSP.
The return follows a busy year for owner Brad Fuhr, whose company repositioned the KGAY brand onto a stronger full-market signal while introducing Sunny 106.5 to fill the vacancy. Although Sunny quickly established its own audience, listener feedback continued pouring in from fans who missed MeTV FM’s distinctive music mix and nostalgic presentation. Rather than ignoring those voices, management made the decision to restore the format to the local dial.
MeTV FM isn’t built around a traditional Classic Hits playlist. Its appeal comes from blending familiar artists across multiple decades, creating a soundtrack that reaches well beyond a single era. The format has developed a passionate following by celebrating songs that have largely disappeared from many commercial radio stations, giving listeners an experience that feels both familiar and refreshingly different.
There’s a bigger lesson here for broadcasters.
At a time when programming decisions are often driven by research, analytics, and algorithms, this move demonstrates the enduring value of simply paying attention to your audience. Sometimes the strongest research comes from phone calls, emails, social media comments, and loyal listeners who refuse to let a favorite station quietly disappear.
Radio has always been at its best when it becomes part of people’s memories.
That’s exactly what MeTV FM is betting on once again.
On The Dial: This isn’t just a format flip—it’s proof that great radio brands can earn a second chance when listeners refuse to let them fade away. Congratulations to Brad Fuhr and the entire team for recognizing that nostalgia isn’t about looking backward… it’s about reconnecting communities with the music that helped define their lives. That’s local broadcasting at its very best.
