Sometimes the best hire is someone who already understands the company’s culture.

That’s exactly the move Cumulus Media has made in northern Nevada, welcoming Mason Stanfield back to the organization as Operations Manager for its Reno cluster while also handing him the keys to one of the market’s premier Country brands.

Stanfield has been named Program Director and morning host of 98.1 K-Bull (KBUL-FM), giving the accomplished programmer and personality an opportunity to lead both on and off the air in one of the West’s fastest-growing radio markets.

It’s a homecoming of sorts.

Stanfield previously served with Cumulus in Colorado Springs, where he programmed and hosted mornings on Cat Country 95.1. Since then, he’s continued building an impressive résumé across multiple markets, adding experience in Louisiana, New Mexico, and most recently returning to his home state of Colorado, where he filled in on mornings at Denver’s legendary 98.5 KYGO.

His journey through broadcasting has been anything but ordinary.

From early morning wake-up calls in Colorado and Minnesota to programming leadership in New Mexico and Louisiana, Stanfield has steadily built a reputation as a programmer who understands Country radio from every angle. He’s worked behind the scenes shaping brands, in front of the microphone building relationships with listeners, and everywhere in between.

Now he brings that experience to Reno.

Stanfield steps into a position previously held by Bob Richards, who departed earlier this year after leaving broadcasting for an opportunity outside the industry. Along with leading 98.1 K-Bull, he’ll oversee programming for a diverse group of stations that includes 95.5 The Vibe, Wild 102.9, and heritage News/Talk station KKOH, making him one of the market’s most influential programming leaders.

For Cumulus, the appointment reflects a strategy that has worked time and again—bringing experienced broadcasters back into the organization who already understand the company’s philosophy while empowering them to grow brands in competitive markets.

It’s also another reminder that great programmers remain one of radio’s most valuable assets.

Formats evolve.

Technology changes.

Listening habits shift.

But strong leadership and compelling local personalities continue to separate great stations from average ones.

With Mason Stanfield now leading both programming and mornings at K-Bull, Cumulus is betting that combination of experience, energy, and familiarity will help drive the next chapter for its Reno operation.

If history is any indication, it’s a bet worth watching.
